The Engineering Division of the City of Winfield's Public Works Department is responsible for providing support on all construction projects within the City. This support is rendered in number of ways and varying degrees. Department personnel perform planning and design, and mapping work. On projects utilizing consulting engineers for design services, the Department acts as the contact point between the City and the consultant. As with any City, Winfield is involved with a wide range of project types.
Department personnel are therefore required to perform work in areas ranging from streets, storm drainage, utility extension and repair, and easements. When a contractor performs construction, the Department will inspect the work and administer payments. The Department also supports the Planning Department working on long-range planning, zoning issues and the subdivision of land.

National Flood Insurance Program
In addition to providing flood insurance and reducing flood damages through floodplain management regulations, the NFIP identifies and maps the Nation's floodplains. Mapping flood hazards creates broad-based awareness of the flood hazards and provides the data needed for floodplain management programs and to actuarially rate new construction for flood insurance.
The linked Fema Flood Maps delineate the various flooding potentials Winfield faces.
